Fatal Newark Crash Victim Identified

A man who was killed in a crash in Newark on Friday night has been identified by the Santa Clara County medical examiner's office as 51-year-old Hayward resident Shawn Tahmoor.

Tahmoor was driving a 1995 Jeep SUV that crashed into a tree near Newark Boulevard and Dairy Avenue around 9:45 p.m. Emergency crews responded and had to pull him from the car. He was the only person in the SUV, according to police. He was taken to a hospital, where he died. The circumstances of the crash remain under investigation, according to Newark police Cmdr. Mike Carroll.

Earlier that day, an injury crash occurred about a block away. In that accident, a vehicle struck a tree on Newark Boulevard near Fair Avenue around 12:45 a.m. The impact split the car in half and the man behind the wheel suffered serious head injuries, police said. Carroll said that the two accidents happening within 24 hours of each other appears to be just a coincidence, and that that road is not known to be dangerous. The earlier crash is believed to be alcohol-related, he said.
