Newark Man Pleads Guilty in Methamphetamine Deal

A U.S. attorney announced Thursday that five people pleaded guilty to charges connected to a drug conspiracy.

A Newark man is among five who pleaded guilty to charges resulting from a methamphetamine distribution conspiracy, according to an announcement made by U.S. Attorney Benjamin B. Wagner on Thursday.

The trial begins on Aug. 22 but Jose Balderon Calderon, 30 — who is also known as Jose Manual Valencia Mendoza — of Newark and Juan Birruetta Kansino, 26, of Modesto pleaded guilty to “conspiring to distribute methamphetamine,” according to a report by KSEE 24 News.

Calderon also pleaded guilty to using a firearm during the drug transaction in Modesto.

According to court records, Calderon was arrested when he and and another man delivered 10 pounds of methamphetamine, the report said. Police said he was carrying a loaded gun at the time.
