As different companies submit propsals to become Newark's new waste collection provider, residents are asked to tell consultants what they want in a garbage collection company.
According to the city website, residents of Newark are asked to participate in an online survey that “will help the City plan for future recycling and garbage services.”
The online questionnaire can be found here and those who wish to participate are asked to take the survey by Oct. 1.
The city is aiming to establish a contract with its new provider by June 1, 2013.
The search for a new provider came after the city’s contract with Waste Management of Alameda County expired.
City council decided to extend the franchise agreement it has with Waste Management for one year in February. Waste Management’s new one-year contract includes a rate increase of approximately 24 percent that became effective on June 1, according to previous city documents.
The fee hike means an increase of a little more than $5 for typical 35-gallon residential service and an increase of about $54 for an average commercial 3-yard bin.
Leading the information gathering generated from the surveys is HF&H Consultants — a firm hired earlier this year to develop, distribute and review proposals from potential providers and oversee implementation of services from the chosen company.
