Business Applies for Warehouse Expansion

The city council is scheduled to review DataSafe Inc.'s application to construct another building.

A business in town may soon expand its warehouse.

If given approval by the city council, DataSafe Inc. will move a step closer to increasing its Newark headquarters by 30,623 square feet.

Located at 37580 Filbert St., DataSafe Information Management Solutions provides record storage, data back up and records disposing services.

Up for review is an application for an addition to the company’s existing industrial building, which occupies nearly 54,000 square feet.

The council is scheduled to review the application at tonight’s meeting, which begins at 7:30 p.m. at city council chambers.

The council has already granted approval for an 89,000 square-foot building to be constructed on that property in two phases, according to the council’s agenda packet. That was approved in 1999.

This would advance the second phase of the construction, which will be located on the south side of the property, and would bring the total square footage of the facility to about 84,363.

DataSafe’s application for expansion was approved by the city’s planning commission on June 28.

Also at the meeting, the council will hold two public hearings.

The first is on granting a conditional use building to construct two new commercial buildings in the Rosemont Square shopping plaza.

The other is to consider objections of property owners and confirmation of a report regarding weed abatement assessments.

City council members in April asked that the superintendent of  streets abate weeds on 145 parcels of land. Since then, property owners have cleared 133 of those lots and a city contractor cleared the remaining 12.

The cost for each of the dozen lots ranged between $211 and $3,652, for a total of $14,907. The property owners will be responsible for paying the city assessments.

The assessments are as listed in the table below.
