Police Log: Assaults, Car Thefts Keep NPD Busy

In this week's crime log, police investigate an armed robbery, several cases of assault with a deadly weapon cases and vehicle thefts.

The following is a summary of calls made to and arrests made by the Newark Police Department between June 20 and June 26.

Violence

A Newark man was arrested on suspicion of various charges, including negligent discharge of a firearm and assault with a deadly weapon, after he fired three rounds with his gun during a fight with his girlfriend, police said. Read more about .

Police are searching for two individuals responsible for an armed robbery in the parking lot of BJ’s Restaurant and Brewery that occurred on June 21. At the time, a woman was arrested; she was later cited on suspicion of possession of drug paraphernalia. Read more about .

A 41-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon on June 21. She was booked into Santa Rita Jail.

A report of an assault with a deadly weapon occurring at NewPark Mall was called into the Newark Police Department on June 25.

Two juveniles were arrested on suspicion of battery on June 26.

A 38-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of battery on June 26. She was booked into Santa Rita Jail.

A report of an assault and battery on Lafayette Avenue was called into the Newark Police Department at 11:35 a.m. 

A report of assault and battery occurring at Thornton Avenue and Willow Street was called into the Newark Police Department at 9:24 p.m. on June 20.

Burglary and Theft

A report of a vehicle stolen on Cedar Boulevard was called into the Newark Police Department on June 24.

A report of a vehicle stolen on Joaquin Murieta Avenue was called into the Newark Police Department just before 3:30 p.m. on June 22.

A 28-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of theft at Newark Boulevard and Interstate 84 on June 22.

Two separate reports of burglary were called into the Newark Police Department on June 20, one from Mirabeau Drive at 5:45 p.m. and the other from Radcliffe Avenue at 12:40 p.m.

Drugs and Alcohol

A 28-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence (DUI) at Decoto Road and Fremont Boulevard on June 26. He was booked into Fremont Jail.

A 31-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence at Central Avenue on June 26. He was booked into Fremont Jail.

A 25-year-old man was cited on suspicion of possession of marijuana or an open container of alcohol while driving at Thornton and Cherry avenues on June 25.

A 26-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of violating a criminal protective order, vandalism and possession of more than an ounce of marijuana on June 26.

A 28-year-old woman was cited on suspicion of possession of marijuana or an open container of alcohol while driving at NewPark Mall on June 25.

A 33-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence on Willow and Thornton avenues on June 22.

Vehicle Accidents and Code Violations

A 46-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of driving without a license at Cedar Boulevard and Mowry Avenue on June 25.

A 43-year-old woman was cited on suspicion of hit-and-run on June 24.

A report of a hit-and-run accident occurring at Cedar and Stevenson boulevards was called into the Newark Police Department on June 21.
