Newark Teacher Returns To Work After Arrest, Administrative Leave

The woman was arrested on suspicion of child endangerment but no charges were filed

A Newark Memorial High School teacher who was on suspicion of child endangerment has returned to work, Superintendent Dave Marken confirmed Monday afternoon.

Charges were never filed after the Feb. 24 arrest of the 35-year-old woman, whose name was not released on Patch because of the lack of charges.

The teacher was arrested on suspicion of five counts of child endangerment and a misdemeanor battery in San Francisco, according to Communications Director Stephanie Ong Stillman of the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office.

But all charges were dropped “because of insufficient evidence,” Stillman added.

Stillman said five minors were present at the time of the woman's arrest. Earlier this month, Marken could not confirm whether the minors were students.

Marken said Monday that the teacher was reinstated because “no charges were filed whatsoever” but that the “investigation from [Newark Unified School District’s] perspective is continuing.”
