Man Stabbed During Attempted Robbery

Police said three suspects tried to rob the jewelry salesman at the Hilton Newark Hotel.

A 40-year-old Southern California man was stabbed during a robbery in a Newark hotel Wednesday morning, police said.

Commander Robert Douglas of the Newark Police Department said authorities learned the man, who is a jewelry salesman, was stabbed after he fought with three individuals who tried to rob him at the around 10:30 a.m.

The man was brought to a local hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries and he is expected to fully recover, Douglas said in a report issued Thursday morning. Police believe the three men were waiting for the victim, he said.

All of the suspects were described as Hispanic men in their late 20s with short-cropped hair who were wearing dark clothing with dark bandanas covering their faces, police said.

Two of them are said to be between 5-foot-6 and 5-foot-7, between 130 and 140 pounds. The third suspect was described as about 5-foot-8 to 5-foot-9, 180 pounds.

The trio was last seen driving southbound on Balentine Drive in a black, newer Toyota Camry. They did not get away with the victim’s property, Douglas said.
