Police said officers responded because a large crowd began getting involved in the fight.

Five minors were arrested Wednesday morning after police officers responded to to a report of a fight, police said.

Acting Sgt. David Lee said police officers arrived to the high school campus mid-morning and found a number of female teenagers fighting with a larger crowd getting involved.

All Newark police units on duty responded to the high school to address the growing crowd, said Lee, who added that the crowd had begun surrounding the officers.

The Argus reported that Superintendent Dave Marken said the fight stemmed from a conflict the girls, who were between the ages of 15 and 16, had over a boy and that all five have been suspended. The Argus also noted that police officials said the fight had no connection to the recent killing high school senior Osana Futi. Visit The Argus to read its full report.

All of the juveniles who were found fighting were arrested by Newark police and are likely to face charges but the incident is still under investigation, Lee added. Police had cleared the area by around 10:45 a.m.
