Gang-Related Shooting Injures One

A 25-year-old Newark man suffered a gunshot wound after shots were fired into his home on the 37000 block of Olive Street around 11:11 p.m. on Dec. 16. The following night, members of the Southern Alameda County Major Crimes Task Force and the Newark-Union City SWAT Team served a search warrant at a home where authorities believed evidence from the Dec. 16 shooting was hidden. to read the full report.

Man Tries To Kick Officer, Falls To Ground While Drunk

A 54-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of public intoxication after officers responded to the parking lot of Newark Square off Thornton Avenue around 10:35 p.m. on Dec. 15. Authorities said upon arrival, officers found the Newark resident yelling and after trying to kick an officer, he fell to the ground. He was later transported to Washington Hospital and then was booked.

Officer Finds Teens With Knife and Drugs on Campus

A minor was arrested on Dec. 15 after ’s school resource officer determined the teenager was in possession of an illegal knife. Police said the teenager was arrested on suspicion of possession of an illegal knife on school grounds, possession of marijuana on school grounds and possession of tobacco products. That same day, the school resource officer arrested two other minors on suspicion of possession of marijuana on school grounds.

Authorities Raid Pot Club

Newark police assisted the Southern Alameda County Major Crimes Task Force as they served a search warrant at Happy Wellness Center at 7200 Jarvis Ave. around 2 p.m. on Dec. 14. Authorities also searched a home in Danville as part of an investigation against four individuals associated with the medical marijuana dispensary. One woman was arrested. to read the full report.

Man Burglarizes Pot Club

An 18-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of commercial burglary around 5:25 a.m. on Dec. 13. Authorities said they arrested the Newark resident after responding to an alarm at the Happy Wellness Center on Jarvis Ave. and found him running from the scene. Officers said the 18-year-old had entered the medical marijuana dispensary after smashing a window. He was booked into Santa Rita Jail.

Burglary and Theft

A male teenager was arrested on suspicion of petty theft at at around 9:04 p.m. on Dec. 15.

Drugs and Alcohol 

A 48-year-old Newark resident was arrested around 10:16 p.m. on Dec. 18 after police conducted a probation search on the 7800 block of Wells Drive. The man was arrested on suspicion of possession of methamphetamine for sales (85 grams), possession of marijuana for sales (22) grams and possession of drug paraphernalia. The man was booked into Fremont Jail.

A 35-year-old Campbell resident was arrested on suspicion of being drunk in public, drug possession and resisting/delaying arrest after officers responded to around 11:28 p.m. on Dec. 18 to a report of the man throwing beer and forks inside of the bar. Authorities said they found that the man had hashish and methamphetamine. He was booked into Santa Rita Jail.

A 35-year-old Newark woman was arrested on suspicion of public intoxication after officers found her wandering on Thornton Avenue and determined she was too drunk to care for herself around 12:40 a.m. on Dec. 16.

A 23-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession of marijuana for sale, possession of more than an ounce of marijuana and possession of prescription drugs without a prescription after officers found him in a car parked near around 3:05 p.m. on Dec. 15.

A 20-year-old Fremont resident was arrested on Mowry Avenue for a felony drug warrant around 11:03 p.m. on Dec. 12. He was booked into Fremont Jail.

Traffic Incidents

A 32-year-old Newark man was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence around 6:37 p.m. on Dec. 17 after officers investigated a report of a vehicle collision involving a tree on Joaquin Murieta. The man was transported to Washington Hospital for his injuries and was cited.

A 28-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of driving without a license and failing to present a driver’s license after he got into a traffic accident at North Magazine Road and Ring Road at around 7:45 p.m. on Dec. 16. He was booked into Fremont Jail.

Police officers managed a traffic incident around 7:25 p.m. on Dec. 14 in which an elderly woman drove off Thornton Avenue and became stuck in the wetlands. Traffic was shut down on Thornton Avenue while the vehicle was recovered and the woman didn’t suffer any injuries.

Two people were transported to a local hospital after a traffic accident occurred around 2:27 p.m. on Dec. 13. The pair was in a vehicle when the driver struck a tree at the 35300 block of Lake Boulevard. Police said the two suffered minor injuries.

Weapon Offenses

A 31-year-od man was arrested on suspicion of brandishing a weapon and delaying/resisting arrest around 5:15 p.m. on Dec. 17. Police said they found the man on the 36800 block of Cherry Street to a report of an intoxicated person with a handgun causing a disturbance. They found the man, who is a transient, who was at first non-compliant with officers’ request. He was booked into Santa Rita Jail.
