Crime Log: Forced Kiss Lands Newark Man In Jail; BART Thefts; Nearby Exposure Arrest

 The following is a partial report of crime in Newark from the Newark Police Department. Complete listings are unavailable as the department updates its reporting system. Patch compiled incident reports from surrounding cities and law enforcement agencies to fill out the week.

Monday, Sept. 16

Sunday, Sept. 15
  • Newark Police provide disaster-prep checklist. September is National Preparedness Month. Here's an important checklist from the Newark Police Department. Details here.
  • Teen car thief at it again. A Fremont officer spotted a 2004 Chrysler Sebring traveling east at excessive speeds on Decoto Road, and finally caught up to it near 11th Street in Union City. The 17-year-old male driver had an active felony warrant for stealing a vehicle, and ... the Chrysler he was driving was reported stolen from Antioch. He was arrested.
Saturday, Sept. 14
  • Booze and snack theft gets ugly. Loss prevention workers at Safeway 5 Corners detained a woman for allegedly stealing snacks and alcohol, and her male companion, who decided to intervene and punched the security employee. The male was arrested for battery, as well as his outstanding petty theft warrant.  The female lied about her identity to police, and was arrested for commercial burglary and false identification.
Friday, Sept. 13
  • Newark man arrested for forcing kiss on teen co-worker. The 38-year-old suspect was arrested on a single charge of molesting a child under the age of 18, Fremont police said. Story here.
  • Ankle bracelet was the giveaway. Washington Hospital employees called police after an intoxicated 49-year-old male came in the emergency room wearing an ankle monitor. He was a wanted parolee and arrested by Fremont police.
  • Motorcyclist expected to survive after suffering major injuries in accident with police car on Fremont Boulevard. Story here.
Thursday, Sept. 12
  • Newark Cub Scouts honor first responders. The 2013 Scout Surge honored public safety officials on 9/11. More here.
  • Catalytic converter swiped at BART. A patron parked a gray 2010 Lexus 350 at 7:45 a.m. in the Fremont BART parking lot, and returned at 5:30 p.m. to discover the vehicle's catalytic converter was stolen. The BART PD case number is 1309-2600. If you have any information on the case, please contact the Watch Commander at (510) 464-7020.
  • Bike theft from BART. A BART rider's bicycle was reported stolen at 6:30 p.m. after being secured with two cable locks at the bike rack at 7:50 a.m. The bike was a red Schwinn 7-speed. If you have any information on the case, please contact the Watch Commander at (510) 464-7020 and reference case 1309-2640.
  • Missing San Leandro woman found in FremontDetails.
