Osana Futi Memory Box Burial Set for June 15

A Newark Memorial High School Senior killed in late April will be honored with a burial service of his possessions in June.

Editor's note: This report is updated to reflect a change in the date of a slain 18-year-old's memory box burial service.

The week after he is expected to graduate, loved ones of Newark student Osana Futi will fill a memory box with his belongings and bury it in his honor.

The Memory Box Burial for Futi will be held on June 15 at 2 p.m. at the Chapel of the Chimes, 32992 Mission Blvd. in Hayward.

Futi's body was transported to American Samoa, where his mother resides, on May 17 for a burial service. Hundreds gathered five days beforehand for to remember the senior during a to celebrate his life.

The 18-year-old Newark resident was killed in late April after he was in Fremont. An 18-year-old man has been in connection to Futi's killing.
