A Newark man died and another man, who was his passenger, was seriously injured after occurred on Central Avenue on Wednesday afternoon, police said. Authorities identified the man who died as Cedric Harrison, 38, of Newark. The identity of the passenger is unknown but is said to be a 23-year-old man out of Fremont.

Thousands of Newark residents went without power Thursday morning that impacted 3,214 PG&E customers around 7:31 a.m. near Central Avenue. PG&E officials worked quickly to resolve the program and by 10:50 a.m., only three customers were left impacted. The power was out from at least Graham Elementary School to Smith Avenue off off Cherry Street, according to Newark residents.
