Week in Review: Officers Honored As Heroes, Pot Club Co-Founders Admit Guilt

Three police officers were that saved a federal officer who was shot outside of his Newark home on the morning of Feb. 7. Officer Randy Ramos received top honors and was given a Distinguished Service Medal, while Sgt. John Kovach and Officer Karl Geser were given gold awards with the Newark Police Department for the medical assistance and police tactics performed to save U.S. Customs and Border Protection Officer Robert Smith.

The co-founders of a now-closed Newark medical marijuana dispensary known as North Bay Dispensary Collective admitted guilt in court this week. The Argus reported that one co-founder “pleaded guilty to maintaining a business to unlawfully sell or provide marijuana,” while the other “pleaded no contest to three misdemeanors tied to workers' compensation and unemployment insurance.” for the full report.

School officials confirmed this week that Blair Barrett, the man who worked to bring back music and drama to Newark schools. Barrett is a local musician who has been part of the production of numerous shows, including Stage 1 Community Theater productions and was instrumental in . He was also spearheading a for the elementary schools and Newark Junior High School.

Law enforcement officers throughout Northern California have been searching for  Sierra Lamar a 15-year-old girl who grew up in Fremont and recently moved to Morgan Hill and has been missing since March 16. Authorities announced that Sierra’s bag was found on Sunday but there have been no significant developments in the investigation.
