SummerFest Brings Entertainment to Newark

The two-day outdoor festival is free to the public and will feature a car show and farmers' market.

The third annual SummerFest will bring live music, food and drinks to the Newark community this weekend.

Hosted by the Newark Chamber of Commerce, the outdoor festival will be held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday on the parking lot between Sears and Macys at .

This year’s theme is Microbrews and Music. The event will also feature a car show, microbreweries and winetasting.

Guests will be able to purchase mugs with tokens so they can visit the various brewers on site.

Families will also have a chance to buy products from commercial merchants and food from a variety of vendors. Children will be able to take part in arts and craft activities and play in a kids' zone, which will include jumpers and pony rides.

A car show awards ceremony will commence at 4 p.m. Saturday. Individuals interested in registering for the car show can do so on site for $35, beginning at 8 a.m. on Saturday. See the attached PDF to learn more about registering.

will also be held during the two-day outdoor festival, bringing well-known gourmet food trucks into town. The Farmers' Market will take part in the festival on Sunday.

SummerFest began three years ago as a way to "highlight our businesses and support our non-profits," said Linda Ashley, president of the Newark Chamber of Commerce.

Here is a breakdown of performances scheduled during SummerFest:

Saturday

  • 10 a.m.: Dog Without Warning (Rock)
  • 11 a.m.: Aerodance (Indian Dance)
  • 12:30 p.m.: Phil Berkowitz and the Dirty Cats (Blues)
  • 2:30 p.m.: Rock and Roll Time Machine (Tribute Band)
  • 4:30 p.m.: Zydeco On Our Mind (Zydeco)

Sunday

  • 10 a.m.: The Resistance (Classic Rock)
  • 11 a.m.: To Be Determined
  • 12:30 p.m.: The Diehards with Susan Harlow (Classic Rock)
  • 2:30 p.m.: Rock and Roll Time Machine (Tribute Band)
  • 4:30 p.m.: Highway 4 (Country & Rock)
