Need to Know: Deadline To Apply For City Council, Rotary Club Hosts Crab Feed

This week, check out Newark library programs, submit your applications for the city council's vacant seat and eat some crabs.

Here are five things you need to know in and around Newark through Jan. 8.

  1. Happy New Year! and are back in session this week and City Hall also resumes its regular hours (8 a.m. to 5 p.m.) Tuesday. Newark Unified will be back in session on Jan. 9.
  2. resumes its program this week, beginning on Wednesday at 10 a.m. Another session will be held on Friday at 10:15 a.m. Learn more about Toddler Time by watching .  
  3. Individuals hoping to apply for a city council seat that became vacant when Al Nagy was appointed mayor have until Thursday to do so. Applications for the seat must be completed and submitted by 5 p.m. on Jan. 5. for more information.
  4. Are your kids not ready to give up everything that reminds them of the holidays? Help them build a snowman – with cotton balls – at Newark Library this Thursday. The craft time begins at 3:30 p.m.
  5. Make sure to save your appetite for Saturday. The Newark Rotary Club will be holding its annual Crab Feed that day. The event will begin at 5 p.m. and will be held at Newark Pavilion.
