Need to Know: Crafty Camp, Public Hearing, Music and Movies

Children can learn the art of scrapbooking, public invited to weigh in on demolition of restaurant and more.

Here are five things you need to know in and around Newark through July 17.

  1. If you have crafty kids, a local scrapbook store is hosting its second class in a five-week summer program. teaches your children small craft projects and how to build a scrapbook in classes held every Tuesday through Aug. 2. The next class is 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on July 12. Children must bring their own scissors, adhesive, a paper trimmer and a snack.Click here for more information.
  2. The public hearing on a proposal to restaurant to build two separate commercial buildings will be held during Thursday’s city council meeting. The meeting begins at 7:30 p.m. on July 14 at the city administration building. Click here to download the agenda for Thursday’s meeting.
  3. It’s ending this week — with the debut of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2. While most are sold out throughout the Bay Area, there are many showings scheduled throughout the weekend at various movie theatres. Here's a breakdown of the showings in the Tri-City.
  4. Stage 1 launches its performances of The Wedding Singer, starting on July 15. The show is a musical rendition of the 1998 movie made popular by actors Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore. Friday’s show begins at 8 p.m. for more details. Two will also be held.
  5. The first of three free music concerts will be held Sunday, July 17. The Big Band Beatwill bring live music to Park beginning at 1:30 p.m. as part of .
