  • Why Go: Celebrate Newark’s 56th birthday by enjoying carnival rides, playing games and eating tons of faire food. Children can also do arts and craft projects and visit animals in the petting zoo, while adults can check out cool cars and shop for goods.
  • Pricing: Free to attend. Cost of rides, games and food varies.

  • Where/When: Joanne Brown Dancers, 35501 Cedar Blvd, Newark; Saturday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Why Go: Learn what Joanne Brown Dancers has to offer. This dance studio offers ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical and hip-hop dance classes. Dance demos, free classes and refreshments will be provided.
  • Pricing: Free.

  • Where/When: Quarry Lakes, 2250 Isherwood Way, Fremont,; Saturday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
  • Why Go: Join the community in cleaning up litter and trash that has impacted local creeks that lead to the Pacific Ocean. Pre-registration is required. Call 510-494-4570.

  • Where/When: All Saints Catholic Church, 22824 Second St., Hayward, CA; Friday from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Why Go: Bring the whole family for games, raffles, music, and food
  • Pricing: Free

  • Where/When: Alameda County Fairgrounds, 4501 Pleasanton Ave., Pleasanton, Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Why Go: Check out the largest indoor arts and crafts show on the West Coast. The three-day event will feature hundreds of artisans who specialize in making jewelry, ceramics, clothing, music and more.
  • Pricing: General admission $9. Seniors, $7. Youth, $4.
