2. The Newark Junior High School Advanced Band will perform its 2011 Spring Concert on Tuesday, May 31, at the . The event begins at 7 p.m. and doors open at 6:40 p.m. It is free and open to the public. (Don't miss it—this is your last chance this year, and maybe ever, to hear the junior high musicians play. Junior high art and music programs are casualties of the district's budget shortfall for next year.)
3. Students and teachers from the Newark Unified School District and Ohlone Community College will be honored at the third annual Avanzando Awards Night.
