Need to Know: Ribbon Cutting At New Restaurant, Movie on Dyslexia and Cheer Camp

Here are five things you need to know in and around Newark through Jan. 29.

  1. A will be held at 5 p.m. Tuesday to debut Anny’s Family Restaurant, a new eatery in town located at 5486 Central Ave. The restaurant specializes in American food. The ceremony, which will be led by Mayor Al Nagy, will start around 5:30 p.m.
  2. Safe Alternatives to Violent Environments (SAVE) will host an event Thursday to give Tri-City residents an opportunity to learn more about the services offered by the non-profit organization. SAVE works to offer alternatives to domestic violence. The event will be held from noon to 1:30 p.m. at the 33077 Alvarado Niles Rd. in Union City.
  3. An informational HBO movie entitled at the at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. The film features how individuals of all ages have lived with dyslexia. A panelist, which will include members of a regional dyslexia association, will speak after the event, which is free to the public.
  4. The Newark City Council will meet for a regular meeting Thursday, beginning at 7:30 p.m. Among the topics on the agenda is a public hearing to consider an extension of the conditional use permit for the weekly farmers’ market at NewPark Mall. Click here to download the full agenda.
  5. Cheerleaders with Newark Memorial High School will be hosting its annual . The camp will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday for children between the ages of 4 and 13. Registration is $40. for more information.
