Newark moms share what they hope for their children and themselves in the next year.

It’s a new year full of fresh starts, and you’re four days into your New Year’s resolutions.

We’ve heard them all. Newark Patch has offered tips who made resolutions to get fit and become closer as a family and even shared some “not so traditional” resolutions with you all.

But we’re not done. These Newark moms share what they hope for their children and themselves for 2012. Feel free to share what you hope to do different as a mom or dad in the comments below.

Brandi Wecks, mom of one

The last two years have been incredibly difficult for our family, so I am just hoping 2012 will bring some peace.  My resolution this year is for my family and myself.  I want to be healthier and more active every day.  As my daughter grows, I want to be more physically active with her, and be a good role model of a healthy lifestyle.  Even though she is young, I want to start now so that she remembers a healthier mom.

Jennifer Makin, mom of two

The second half of 2011 was a whirlwind of events for my family, as I finally landed a full-time job after a year of being unemployed, moved to Newark and had to help my 6-year-old adjust to a new elementary school (twice, as his home school was impacted and they moved him after his second day!), plus find a preschool for my 3-year-old.

I feel very fortunate for everything I now have in my life, and 2012 will be a year for settling in and making our new surroundings our new hometown. As a parent, I have some simple goals for this year: Decorate our house into a home (already underway!), ensure my kids are staying active (swim lessons and baseball sign ups complete!), and enjoy the time I have with my kids (being a single mom has its trials, and sometimes it is difficult to relax and remember their entire lives are built upon the foundation that is built when they are this young). As an individual, I will find my groove again by finding the right dance fitness classes for myself (and if I can't find ones I absolutely LOVE, determine the steps and longer term goal of becoming an instructor), and keep my running and other competition events fun by accomplishing things like running my first half marathon, get proper swim training to complete my first triathlon, and above all, spread my love of being fit with everyone around me by serving as an inspiration to those who think they can't, and keep motivated for those who can but need an uplifting spirit on occasion. And when I think I can't, I just need to remember that one year ago, I never imagined I could run a 5K let alone several 10Ks, mud runs, and a duathalon (all of which I did in 2011, just by stumbling upon it). Cheers to a happy, healthy and prosperous 2012!

Tammy Warren-Alcorta, mom of five

As a mom, I hope to accomplish a better and more open relationship with my children and to also set up more responsibilities for them. I want to continue teaching them right from wrong and hope they learn from whatever mistakes they may make. As for myself , I plan to learn from the mistakes I made last year and make this year better – both physically and mentally. I want my children to be proud of me and to see that I can set goals and reach them.
