Meet the Graduates: Lorimelle Beltran
A Newark Memorial high school senior who remained active in athletics, arts and academics shares the most valuable lesson she learned during high school.
Lorimelle Beltran is not one to give up when challenges arise.
It is this trait that kept her motivated throughout her time at and helped her achieve so much.
The 18-year-old high school senior will join her classmates on Saturday as they formalize the end of their K-12 education.

Beltran said she will miss it all.
“What I will miss in high school would be the memories of good friends and teachers, and the campus itself,” Beltran said.

And on that campus, Beltran stayed busy.
She took part in the Filipino Student Union, in which she held numerous leadership roles including president and was a member of the Interact Club and the California Scholarship Federation.
Beltran also was a part of the school’s Badminton team, Drama Club and Advanced Choir.
Despite being so active in clubs, the Newark native who once attended always made academics her priority, resulting in her receiving a California Scholarship Federation cord, certificate and pin; a $300 Mary Curras Scholarship and honor roll and graduation honors recognitions.
Beltran said the lesson she learned about that most benefited her in high school is to persevere.
“There were so many trials during high school where I just felt like giving up because of too much activities plus the loads of homework that teachers give in AP classes,” Beltran said. “Then, I realize that all the hard effort will be worth something in the end. I never regretted doing so since I achieved several awards.
Next year, she plans to attend California State University, East Bay where she will study nursing. It’s a step toward the future she’s excited to take and she said she plans to stay just as active in organizations outside of her academics.
“What I will be looking forward to in college would be learning my career I always dreamed of doing, and being able to meet new people, join new clubs, and maintain my grades,” Beltran said.
The Class of 2012 graduation will be held Saturday at 9 a.m. at the high school's football stadium.
