Newark Police To Wait Tables For Charity

Members of the public will be granted the opportunity to give orders to the police.

Police officers will be putting down the citation pad this October to raise money for charity at the NewPark Mall.

Officers from the Newark Police Department are partnering with Red Robin Gourmet Burgers to raise money for the Special Olympics of Northern California. This is one of 27 events taking place simultaneously throughout the state.

Police officers will be helping servers bring food and drinks to people that day, a Red Robin staff member told Patch.  The company will be staffing at normal levels. Officers will be walking around, talking to guests, and collecting tips.  The tips they collect will be given to the Special Olympics of Northern California, which provides free athletic coaching to people with intellectual and mobility challenges.

The event will take place from 11 a.m.- 8 p.m. on October 12, 2013. Red Robin is located 1031 at New Park Mall in Newark, California.
