Three of the four table tennis players headed to London with the U.S. Olympic team this summer train at the India Community Center in Milpitas. For coach Rajul Sheth, 41, the table tennis center’s director, it’s all part of the plan. This year they compete; In 2016, they win medals against players from China, who now dominate the winners’ podium. By qualifying more than one player to this year’s Olympics, “We exceeded our goal,” Sheth said. “We’re in the pipeline.” Milpitas players Lily Zhang, 15, of Palo Alto; Ariel Hsing, 16, of San Jose; and Timothy Wang, 20, of Houston, all are packing their bags to cross the pond. Train rides into San Francisco will begin around 5 a.m. Sunday.
BART has announced longer trains and an early open time for this weekend's Bay to Breakers event in San Francisco. Service for the 101st Bay to Breakers race in San Francisco on Sunday will begin at roughly 5 a.m. at all BART stations; trains running before 8 a.m. will run at 20-minute intervals. Bikes won't be allowed in trains until after 8 a.m. Download the special train schedule for Bay to Breakers service. The world-famous race attracts thousands of runners and spectators from throughout the Bay Area. The cyclists are expected to arrive into Livermore around noon and will spend approximately 40 minutes within the City limits as they pass through Livermore. There’s more! Former wrestling stars body slam to benefit Newark Memorial High School's athletics department and superstar Bobby Lashley talks about the importance of independent wrestling.
The Super-Plex, Twist of Fate, and sudden Spears all were maneuvers dished out at the Newark Memorial High School Event Center by wrestling legends who came to town to support the high school on Saturday. Longtime industry veteran Kirk White and his independent wrestling agency Big Time Wrestling held its BTW SuperShow 2012, in which attendees had the opportunity to get signatures and meet former World Wrestling Entertainment Superstars: "The Masterpiece" Chris Masters, Daivari, Bobby Lashley, and former one-half WWE Tag Team Champion Matt Hardy. Family and friends remember the life of an 18-year-old Newark student who was fatally stabbed late Saturday night.

The Newark Memorial High School senior’s life was cut short by violence Saturday night after he succumbed to injuries early Sunday that he sustained during a fight that turned into a reported stabbing outside of a house party in Fremont’s Blacow District on Saturday. The Newark Memorial High baseball team has a “Flex” plan for securing a fifth straight trip to the North Coast Section playoffs. It’s always good to have an “ace” in the hole, especially in high school baseball, and the Cougars have one of the best in senior pitcher Christopher “Flex” Flexen. Considered one of the top high school pitchers in the state, Flexen has committed to Arizona State University and “has quite a few major league organizations looking at him,” Newark coach Phil Castellanos said. The girls basketball camp will be held at the Silliman Activity Center, 6800 Mowry Avenue, Newark, July 16-20, 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The camp is open to girls 8-15 years of age at all ability levels, beginners to advanced. The senior takes fifth at the Flo National tournament in Pennsylvania
Jake Smith didn’t feel like he showed his true capabilities in the California Interscholastic Federation State Wrestling Championships in March. A month later, the Newark Memorial High senior got the chance to redeem himself at the Flo Nationals tournament at Drexel University in Philadelphia March 31-April 1. (Click here to watch a video from the tournament.) The 132-pounder, representing California in the national event, took fifth with a 5-2 mark with a pair of pins. That included a 4-0 start that put him in the semifinals. His performance helped California take first with 317 points.
