BART passengers on a train from San Francisco to Dublin-Pleasanton got stuck standing for more than 30 minutes after a medical emergency shut down service from Bay Fair through Fremont.
Joan June 19, 2013 at 10:10 am
Too bad BART wasn't as forthcoming as this article. They kept saying "major medicalRead More emergency" on their site. I don't expect them to get on the intercom and say "dead body on the tracks", but "major medical emergency"? They could have given us more information (such as "trains won't be moving for 40 minutes; bus bridge from ___ to _____" instead of having us get off trains with no guidance, and then back on trains numerous times.

Kath Aguiar and others. Do not rush to judgement. Here is what happened. Ms Dunlevy went straightRead More through the intersection when the light was fully green. That was brought out in court. So when you say, "the light was red....you broke a law...." is not factual. What actually happened was that she was in the left turn lane which had a red arrow and the camera captured her because she did not stop. But, she did not turn left, at all. She committed an infraction, Yes. An illegal lane change which carries a much lower fine. An illegal lane change is legally enforcable by photo enforcement. That is the law. The law says "speeding" and other infractions cannot be enforced when the only evidence is the camera images. Yes, the judge did not agree with that argument and her ticket was dismissed by a different technicality. But there was no safety issue as to going through an intersection when the light was green.

Kirsten and others who feel guilty for having received a camera ticket in Newark. The direction ofRead More traffic enforced by camera in the ticket issued to Ms. Dunlevy regularly issues over 99% to right turners. In fact, during Dec (when she received her ticket) 2 violations occurred in the left lane (Dunlevy was one of the 2) and none were from the straight through lanes. 364 occurred in the right turn lane. Now the fine for a right turn violation does not require any safety issue to convict. No pedestrian or competing vehicle needs to be in the 12 second video. You can slow to 2 mph and if the camera catches you, you will receive no reduction in the $490 fine (barring certain judges' discretions). The mine is minimum and it is mandatory. $490. Let me add that years ago that particular approach had a "pork chop" design where right turners were only required to "Yield" That configuration and the same behavior (i.e. Yielding but not stopping) is now enforced to the tune of $1 million dollars per year. That is $1 million dollars just at this one approach each year. Money that won't be spent in local Newpark businesses. Did you know that one of the council members of Belmont said he received a Newark camera tickets a few years ago when he lived in Newark and has never shopped in Newark again. He voted against renewal of Belmont's red light camera contract Tuesday. They will go dark at the end of the month. So....Kirsten. You are no more guilty than the officials who bought into the program (drank the Redflex kool-aid) into Newark. The officials are more responsible for "red light running" than the motorists. Whether a refund is due you and the more than 10,000 others is up for debate, but you should realize the City is using a "technicality" to hammer citizens and visitors to the tune of millions for no provable safety benefit.

Gil previously was convicted of three felonies in Santa Clara County Superior Court, according toRead More court documents. In 2000, he was convicted of possession of a controlled substance. He also was convicted of second-degree commercial burglary and corporal injury on a spouse in 2003.
Geoff Burton June 11, 2013 at 06:32 pm
If the felony convictions are true I guess he'll be going to prison for a long time.

to the concerned fremont resident, yes accidents due happen, but this accident could have beenRead More avoided the speed limit where this man crashed is 35 miles an hour, to split his car in halve he was travelling well beyond that...he should be held accountable for killing his wife and his child...because that is what he did by being a irresponsible driver, and by breaking the law.

Oops he did it again: There are VERY few people who exist that can outrun a Police Radio and I'veRead More only known one other personally from the Newark Area who could do this. However, everybody slips up sooner or later as it takes one simple miscalculation to foil one's self. If Mr "Oops" were smart, he'd let himself be caught and take his lumps as being on the run is no kind of life worth living. As an Adult, nothing less is expected of him.

Something really needs to be done about the gangster problem in Newark. Councilwoman Sucy informedRead More us that Newark had *only* around 200 gang members; apparently she is unaware that Chicago at the height of the Prohibition gang wars had *only* around 300 gang members. Considering Chicago in the 1920s had a population of over two million people and Newark has a population of less than 50,000, it seems that there is a serious gang problem in Newark. The average gang member causes at least $50,000 in losses to the public each and ever year - this means that $10,000,000 is being diverted from the mainstream economy to criminal enterprises in the form of thefts, policing costs, etc. each and every year.
Daniel Howard, 32, is one of three individuals suspected of killing 17-year-old Newark teen Justice Afoa on Dec. 15, 2010.

Scary what meth does to people. The whole Howard fam got issues, now sounds like sis lying to coverRead More for her bro the 'angel' who was taking care of mom - right! Shameful, but he'll still prolly go away for the rest of his life

Stallworth is disgusting. “He never intended to carry out the threat,” -- yeah, that'sRead More right, that's why he CARRIED OUT it.

I went to school with Danny back in junior high and high school, and he's always been a bad personRead More with evil intentions. Even as a 14 year old, I remember him carrying around guns and knives- and even perpetually bullying the developmentally disabled kids in special ed. As much as I don't like to think this, some people are just born evil...

Well put Nadja about misuse of authority. On a minor point however, I think the America mind neverRead More equates itself with Stalin, Hitler or Mussolini. There is far too much of we are the good guys and they are the bad guys from the way WWII is taught and propagandized to this day as a good war for the US. They never consider for example that Satalin was worse than Hitler and yet he was our ally. I believe the effective antidote for the problems we agree on is a study of the histories of Greece and Rome which is conspicuously missing from government education and had always been a feature of a classical education.
Albert Rubio May 30, 2013 at 06:42 am
Nadja, regarding compensation, the high costs are likely a result of locking out most entrants intoRead More the field (which would reduce wages) by use of limited accreditation by the academy. Also they are likely unionized. They are therefore able to maintain a much higher wage than would otherwise be available on the free market.
Nadja Adolf June 4, 2013 at 01:13 pm
Of course, people do not realize that the Italians, the Germans, the Russians, the Argentinians, theRead More Cubans, the Liberians did not see themselves as the "bad guys."

I'm going to be cruising Newark all weekend along with my trusty DSLR in search of idiots who haveRead More not heeded the NPD's advice. BTW I got 5 extra Battery Packs, and an additional 32GB memory Card for this special holiday weekend. So if you drive drunk, you have a 90% chance of winding up on my Website. Think about it. Heed NPD's advice!
