NEWARK DAYS

Where/When: Community Center Park, 35501 Cedar Blvd. in Newark; Friday from 5 to 10:30 p.m., Saturday from 7 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 9 p.m.

Why Go: Celebrate Newark's 58th birthday with games, live performances, and a parade. The 2013 theme of the city's annual 'Newark Days' celebration is All That Jazz, so get your sparkling top hats ready.

INTERNATIONAL DAY OF PEACE

Where/When:
 Peace Pole, Lake Elizabeth, 40000 Paseo Padre Pkwy. in Fremont; Saturday starting at 10 a.m.

Why Go: People from all faiths will come together to plea for world peace. There will be testimonies, followed by a walk for peace around the lake.

Where/When: Whole Foods Market, 3111 Mowry Ave. in Fremont; Saturday at noon

Why Go: Sample treats from more than 50 food vendors while enjoying music and dance performances. There will also be a kids' zone, skate demo and preview tours of the new Whole Foods Market, which opens Sept. 25.

JOANNE BROWN DANCERS OPEN HOUSE

Where/When: 33535 Western Ave. in Union City; Saturday at 2 p.m.

Why Go: Celebrate 33 years of dance in Union City with Joanne Brown Dancers. Join the dance studio for demos, performances and refreshments. New families who attend will also receive a free bag.

2ND ANNUAL NILES MUSIC FESTIVAL

Where/When: Nile Plaza, 37592 Niles Blvd. in Fremont; Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Why Go: If you love music -- or just old fashioned outdoors family-friendly fun -- then you don't want to miss this one. The event will feature 25 live acts for 8 hours of music, along with kids games, food vendors and more.
