Book Bunch

Book lovers unite every second Monday of each month at the Newark Senior Center (7401 Enterprise Dr. in Newark) to discuss titles on Oprah’s book club list. Meetings are held at 10 a.m. This week’s book: “The Movement of Stars” by Amy Brill.

Jazz @ The Slice

Catch the Bill Murphy Trio Wednesday night at Love at First Slice Pizza in Newark (36601 Newark Blvd.). The show starts at 7 p.m. As usual, the concert is free and all music lovers are welcome.

StarStruck Theatre Presents “All Shook Up”

Get “All Shook Up” at youth performing arts company StarStruck Theatre’s rendition of the rock ‘n’ roll musical this week. The show — full of Elvis Presley hits such as “Jailhouse Rock,” “Heartbreak Hotel” and “Love Me Tender” — runs Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. at the Ohlone College Outdoor Amphitheatre, located at 43600 Mission Blvd. in Fremont.

Halal Food and Eid Festival

The first ever Halal food festival in the state — Halal Fest — comes to NewPark Mall in Newark this Saturday. The free festival, which also celebrates the Muslim holiday of Eid, will showcase a variety of foods from around the world including Middle Eastern, Arabic, Mediterranean and South Asian fare. There will be a live cooking demo, halal food vendors, children’s activities and a bazaar with clothing, jewelry, crafts, toys and art for sale. Learn more about the event here.

21st Annual Festival of India and Parade

Celebrate Indian culture at the annual Festival of India. The two-day event takes place Saturday and Sunday and features music, a parade, dance competitions, Bollywood celebrities, a free health fair and a variety of vendors offering clothes, arts, crafts and flavorful food. The festival takes place at 39439 Paseo Padre Pkwy. Admission is $5.
