Hundreds of Families Adopted For Holidays; Dozens More Waiting

Two local non-profits help local families in need through Adopt-A-Family programs.

Two local non-profits are helping hundreds of families this holiday season by finding ways for them to be adopted.Β

The Tri-Cities League of Volunteers and the Viola Blythe Community Service Center are holding their annual Adopt-A-Family programs.

During the holidays, businesses, organizations, churches and Newark residents have a chance to help out families in need by fulfilling their holiday wishes.

Each program encourages those who participate to help families by purchasing food items for a family and gifts for each member of the family that is adopted.

And while approximately 150 families have been adopted, representatives from LOV and Viola Blythe said there are still families who need to be adopted.

LOV Program Director Joanne Paletta said there are still 58 families that need to be adopted through the LOV Adopt-A-Family Program and that the organization is in need of adopters and donations for the program.

β€œThe need is more and the contributions are less,” Paletta said.

The families that are adopted are of all kinds: single-parent families, senior citizens or low-income families.

Other ways to contribute to either program is to donate the following items:

  • Food items for a holiday meal
  • Toys or clothing for family members
  • Grocery store gift certificates
  • Cash donation
