Warm Weather Coming Friday And Saturday: Here's Some Tips On Handling The Heat

Have some sunscreen handy, drink plenty of water and stay in the shade the next couple days.

The East Bay is going to be unusually warm on Friday and Saturday. In fact, it’ll be downright hot in some inland communities.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration is forecasting high temperatures between 95 and 105 for inland valleys in the East Bay and North Bay on Friday. NOAA officials say it’ll be between 100 and 110 in those places on Saturday.

It will be significantly cooler along the coastlines, but NOAA officials are also predicting large waves and strong rip currents at some Northern California beaches, where overheated inland residents may seek relief from high temperatures.

In addition, a Spare the Air alert has been issued for the Bay Area by the Bay Area Air Quality Management District. There is no mandatory wood burning ban in place, but BAAQMD officials are urging people to drive as little as possible and not to use gas-powered machines such as lawn mowers.

In Newark, the National Weather Service forecast calls for a high temperature of 82 degrees on Friday and 83 degrees on Saturday. Sunday will cool down to 71 degrees.

People trying to beat the heat can head over to the city's Aquatic Center.

To stay safe in warm weather, the Centers for Disease Control has a list of tips. Among them are drinking plenty of fluids, avoiding liquids that contain alcohol or sugar, staying indoors when possible, taking a cool shower, wearing lightweight, light-colored clothing and wearing a hat and sunscreen.

Senior citizens, young children and pets are particularly vulnerable to hot weather. The ASCPA has advice for owners of pets. The Family Caregiver Alliance has tips for people taking care of the elderly or disabled people. The National Network for Child Care has advice for people overseeing small children in warm weather.

Fire department officials are also cautioning residents to be wary of fire dangers. The hot weather will make fire danger critically high this weekend.
