Tha Newark Cougars have cinched their second straight North Coast Section Division II title with a 74-60 victory over the Dublin Gaels.
The boys basketball team dominated throught the contest at Washington High School in Fremont on Friday night.
At the half the Cougars led by 10 with 32 points. By the third quarter buzzer their lead had widened to 50-38 according to a Facebook account of the game.
"Our whole focus is defense, Cougar point guard Joey Frenchwood told the San Jose Mercury. "We know we're going to get scores on offense regardless."
Frenchwood, a junior, scored 20 to share the honors of top point scorer with the Gaels' JoJo McLaston, the Mercury reported.
The Cougars will face the Archbishop Mitty Monarchs later this week in the Nor-Cal Open Division according to high school basketball blogger Matthew Groom.
