Newark boys, Northgate girls win again while Foothill girls surprise Monte Vista

Here are some of the scores from high school basketball action in the East Bay on Friday evening.

BOYS

Newark Memorial 67  James Logan 40

Newark Memorial High clinched at least a tie for the MVAL title with a 67-40 victory over James Logan High.

The Cougars led 23-14 at half and then outscored Logan 22-6 in the third period to put the game away.

Newark is now 20-4 overall and 10-0 in league. They have won 14 straight.

Logan is now 12-12 on the season and 9-2 in league.

DFAL

Miramonte 80  Las Lomas 66

Miramonte High stopped Las Lomas High's winning streak and captured an important league match, 80-66.

The Matadors led 36-29 at half and then steadily pulled away in the second half.

Miramonte is now 17-7 on the season and 7-3 in league. They've won four in a row.

Las Lomas falls to 16-9 overall and 7-4 in league. They had won five straight.

Dublin 66  Alhambra 63

Dublin High held off a late charge by a surprisingly tough Alhambra High to eke out a 66-63 victory.

The Gaels led 40-24 at halftime, but Alhambra stormed back before falling just short.

Dublin was led by junior guard Jamir Andrews, who poured in 34 points.

Dublin is now 16-8 overall and 7-3 in league. They had lost two straight.

Alhambra falls to 5-17 and 0-11 in league.

DVAL

Northgate 51  Ygnacio Valley 25

Northgate High cruised past Ygnacio Valley High, 51-25, to set up a league title showdown with College Park next week.

The Broncos jumped out to a 23-2 lead after the first period, then used 12 different players as they coasted to victory.

Ygnacio Valley falls to 1-23 overall and 0-10 in league.

Northgate is now 16-8 overall and 8-2 in league. They've won seven straight and on Tuesday will face College Park High, which is 9-1 in league.

College Park 75  Mt. Diablo 50

College Park High used a strong second half to defeat Mt. Diablo High, 75-50.

The Falcons held a 37-32 lead at halftime, but outscored Mt. Diablo 21-10 in the third quarter on their way to victory.

College Park is now 17-7 overall and 9-1 in league.

Mt. Diablo is 4-18 and 1-10 in league.

Clayton Valley 56  Concord 55

Clayton Valley High came from behind to edge Concord High, 56-55.

Concord led 31-22 at halftime, but the Eagles cut the margin to 45-41 at the end of the third quarter. Clayton Valley then outscored the Minutemen, 15-10, in the final period for the victory.

Clayton Valley was led by senior guard Craig Ihle, who scored 22 points.

The Eagles are now 15-9 overall and 6-4 in league.

Concord drops to 16-9 on the season and 6-5 in league.

EBAL

Monte Vista 47  Foothill 38

Monte Vista High slowly but steadily wore down Foothill High for a 47-38 victory.

The Mustangs led 21-15 at halftime and gradually increased their margin in the second half.

Monte Vista is now 17-7 overall and 9-3 in league.

Foothill falls to 9-15 overall and 5-7 in league.

De La Salle 59  Granada 23

De La Salle High put on a strong defensive display as it crushed Granada High, 59-23.

The Spartans jumped out to a 24-2 lead in the first quarter. They expanded the margin to 42-6 at half.

De La Salle is now 22-2 overall and 11-1 in league. They've won 12 straight.

Granada is now 16-7 and 8-4 in league. They had won six in a row.

Livermore 67  San Ramon Valley 64

Livermore High overcame a 16-point second half deficit to defeat San Ramon Valley High, 67-64, for their first league victory.

San Ramon Valley led 16-4 after the first period, but the Cowboys cut that margin to 29-24 at half.

The Wolves played a strong third period, holding a 54-38 lead at the end of three periods. However, Livermore outscored them, 29-10, in the final quarter to snatch away the victory.

Livermore was led by junior guard Chad Wilkinson, who scored 24 points, and senior guard Mckayle Harnell, who poured in 22 points.

San Ramon Valley was spearheaded by junior guard Logan Louks, who tallied 22 points.

Livermore is now 7-17 overall and 1-11 in league. The win snapped a seven-game losing streak.

San Ramon Valley falls to 9-15 and 4-8 in league.

Amador Valley 58  California 54

Amador Valley High snapped a five-game losing streak by defeating California High, 58-54.

Amador Valley is now 13-11 overall and 5-7 in league play.

Cal High is 11-13 on the season and 5-7 in league.

HAAL

Castro Valley 77  Arroyo 31

Castro Valley High bounced back from its loss Wednesday to Bishop O'Dowd by demolishing Arroyo High, 77-31.

The Trojans led 24-0 after the first period and cruised the rest of the way. They were led by senior Dawson Johnson, who scored 20 points.

Castro Valley is now 18-5 overall and 10-3 in league.

Arroyo falls to 3-21 and 0-14 in league.

GIRLS

EBAL

Foothill 54  Monte Vista 49

Foothill High came on strong in the fourth quarter to slip past Monte Vista High, 54-49.

Monte Vista led 29-21 at half and 41-36 after three periods, but Foothill outscored them 18-8 in the final period to snag the victory.

The Falcons were led by senior Maddie Craig, who tallied 23 points, and senior Danielle Lamarche, who contributed 20 points.

Foothill is now 13-11 overall and 8-4 in league. They've won six straight.

Monte Vista falls to 19-5 overall and 9-3 in league. They had won eight of their previous nine games.

Livermore 51  San Ramon Valley 37

Livermore High played a steady game as it downed San Ramon Valley, 51-37.

Livermore led 23-16 at halftime and gradually increased that margin during the second half.

Livermore is now 12-12 on the season and 5-7 in league.

San Ramon Valley is 6-17 and 0-12 in league.

Amador Valley 46  California 40

Amador Valley High won its second straight game by downing California High, 46-40.

Amador Valley is now 15-9 overall and 5-7 in league play.

Cal High falls to 8-17 on the season and 4-8 in league. They've lost four straight.

Northgate 66  Ygnacio Valley 17

Northgate High kept its unbeaten league record intact as it crushed Ygnacio Valley High, 66-17.

The Broncos led 22-3 after one period and then 42-11 at halftime.

Northgate is now 15-9 overall and 10-0 in league. They've won five straight.

Ygnacio Valley drops to 0-20 overall and 0-10 in league.

Clayton Valley 72  Concord 35

Clayton Valley High had a monster second half as it cruised past Concord High, 75-35.

The Eagles led 29-23 at halftime and then outscored Concord 43-12 in the final two periods.

Clayton Valley was led by senior forward Molly Kommer, who poured in 26 points.

Clayton Valley is now 14-10 overall and 8-2 in league. They've won four in a row.

Concord drops to 9-16 and 4-7 in league.

DFAL

Dublin 57  Alhambra 13

Dublin High used a suffocating defense to dismantle Alhambra High, 57-13.

The Gaels led 24-4 at halftime and coasted the rest of the way.

Dublin is now 15-8 overall and 6-4 in league. They've won three straight.

Alhambra is now 13-12 and 2-9 in league. They've dropped three in a row.

Miramonte 75  Las Lomas 25

Miramonte High got off to a blazing start as it crushed Las Lomas High, 75-25, to keep its perfect record.

The Matadors led 40-5 after the first period and 55-9 at halftime. They are now 24-0 overall and 10-0 in league.

Las Lomas falls to 8-17 overall and 0-11 in league.
