Coach Rich Swift went home Saturday and is under hopice care as his inoperable brain tumor causes him to drift in an out of consciousness, according to Newark Unified School District Superintendent David Marken.
"He has opened his eyes and squeezed some people's hands but he didn't do that when I was there Sunday," Marken told Patch Monday.
Only last week was Coach Swift diagnosed as suffering from a brain tumor and his condition has deteriorated rapidly to the point where doctors do not expect that he has long to live.
Marken said Swift's family and doctors suggest that well wishers keep him in their thoughts and prayers but refrain from attempting to visit because the Coach is so weak.
Patch will follow the situation.
