TSA Orders Next-Generation Explosive Detectors From Newark Business
The multimillion-dollar contract will fund advanced computed tomography devices that will be used to screen bags at airports.
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security signed a $10 million contract with a Newark, California-based company to develop a new luggage-scanning machine for airports, according to an award notice published on fedbizopps.gov.
Morpho Detection Inc. is developing a prototype of a system that will use advanced x-ray diffraction technology to detect liquids and other potential explosives, according to the company's documents. The company bid for the contract in 2009 and began working on it in 2011. Morpho has received about $7 million thus far, according to @Morpho_News.
The award notice that was released on Nov. 5 for a “Reduced Size Standalone Explosives Detection System” is heavily redacted and ominously vague. The delivery order is “indefinite-delivery-indefinite-quantity,” according to the description of it on the documentation you can see attached to this post.
Morpho Detection Inc., is a subsidiary of Safran, which is an international company with a market cap of about 26 billion USD. It has a physical presence at 7151 Gateway Boulevard, in Newark, California.
