VIDEO: Local Art at NewPark Mall

NewPark Mall offers a spot for artists to be creative. Children participate in summer workshops, while local artists display their painting during an art show.

The NPM Cultural Corner is about to lose its art, but only temporarily.

Alsion art teacher Maria Romeo, who oversaw the show, as well as the art workshops that have been held at the Creative Corner over the past month, said the school’s students traditionally display their art for sale at the Mission Coffee Roasting Company in Fremont every year in May.

But the students received more public wall time, Romeo said, when mall officials approached her about bringing the show to NewPark after its run at the coffee shop was finished.

The paintings were based on a theme of the four elements: earth, air, fire and water. Though the show is over, the paintings are still for sale, Romeo said. To inquire about the paintings, contact Romeo at mgromeo42@yahoo.com or 510-651-3161.

Next to be featured at the center will be Polynesian art by the group, Teura Designs. That exhibit is scheduled for July 22-24. Artwork by local artist Javier Martinez will be showcased at the Cultural Corner in August.

Works by surrealist artists Frost Newton, Marconi Calindas and Jeff Neugebauer made up the Cultural Corner’s debut exhibit.
