NUSD Board to Adopt Budget, Discuss Benefits

The Newark Unified Board of Education is scheduled to meet at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

A public hearing on the proposed final budget for the Newark Memorial Unified School District’s 2011-12 fiscal year will be held Tuesday evening, followed by a vote on whether to adopt it.

The hearing will be held during the Newark Unified School District Board of Education’s regular meeting, which begins at 7:30 p.m, at the .

Director of Fiscal Services Robbie Pascual will present a budget report before the hearing and the board is scheduled to voted on adopting the proposed budget later in the meeting.

The proposed budget totals $59.7 million, according to the district’s report.

The second reading of a bylaw that outlines the remuneration, reimbursement and other benefits of board members is also listed on the agenda for Tuesday’s meeting. 

According to the proposed bylaw, the Board of Education has decided to phase out district contributions to board members’ medical insurance premiums over a five-year period, but will maintain a contribution of 100 percent of insurance premiums for dental and vision plans.

In closed session, the board is scheduled to discuss the search for a new superintendent. Last week, Board President Charlie Mensinger said t during a closed session on June 18.
