Newark Unified To Start Seeking Coach Swift's Replacement

District will look for athletic director and football coach.

Now that Newark residents have mourned the passing of Coach Rich Swift, school officials are ready to start looking for his replacement.

Coach Swift died Feb. 13 of an inoperable brain tumor. He was 60. A memorial service was held March 10 at the Newark Memorial High School Event Center.

Swift was a fixture at Newark Memorial High for more than three decades until his premature passing.

Newark Unified School District Superintendent David Marken said officials are ready to begin advertising for a permanent replacement as athletic director.

That person will run 19 athletic programs ranging from badminton to wrestling.

Marken said the public notice of the athletic director opening should be posted no later than the end of the week.

Physical education teacher Rachel Kahoalii has been serving as interim athletic director.

Marken said the district will first advertise and interview for athletic director, and then conduct a separate search for a head football coach.

In related news, the Cougar's Annual Crab Feed is Saturday, March 23, 2013 at the Newark Pavilion. Tickets are $40.00 each. Call 818-4339 for information.

Finally, anyone wishing to make a donation in Coach Swift's honor should address it to the Rich Swift Athletic Alumni Association. Make checks payable to RSAAA c/o Tim Hess 39375 Cedar Blvd. Newark, CA 94560.

I remember as a teacher buying my own supplies. Looking back I don't regret buying anything andRead More realize that each person's teaching style is different. The things I might buy for my classroom would be totally different than you. Running a classroom is a lot like running a business, there are expenses and you just have to deal with that.

One story I tried to read had an ad covering 1/4 of it, and there was no way to make it go away.
