Newark Unified Administrator Danny L. Santellano Dies At 56

Santellano has been a Newark Unified employee since 1976.

Newark Unified School District Custodial Supervisor Danny L. Santellano died March 1, district officials confirmed Tuesday. He was 56.

Santellano has been an employee of the since September 1976, when he joined the district as a custodian, said Superintendent Dave Marken. In March 1981, he was appointed as the district’s custodial supervisor.

He worked at Newark Memorial High,  High and Muller, and elementary schools.

“He will be deeply missed,” Marken said.

District officials had no information about planned funeral and memorial services for Santellano.

On Feb. 22, Marken announced that Santellano was on life support stemming from a medical condition that began the Friday prior when Santellano choked and collapsed at a Fremont restaurant.

According to Fremont Chapel of the Roses, Santellano is survived by his brother Raymond  L. Santellano, and his wife, Lucy, of Fremont, two sisters, another brother and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Remegio Santellano and Helen Santellano, and his younger brother Joe Santellano.

Family members are currently working on organizing memorial services.
