Why Go: This Valentine's celebration includes DJ Johnny Afro mixing the hottest hip hop, R&B, and old-school club hits and performances by Lucas and Ya Yah.

Where/When: Newark Library; Saturday at 11 a.m.

Why Go: Martin Yan, master chef, noted author of more than 30 books and television personality, will discuss his latest book and demonstrate his cooking skills. A selection of his cookbooks will be for sale, so you can try making some dishes at home.

Where/When: The Don Edwards San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge; Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to noon.

Why Go: Improve the wildlife refuge for visitors and for wildlife alike.Recruit some friends and family to go with you—the more help, the better.

Pricing: Free, and the feeling of a job well done is priceless.

 

Where/When: Jack London Square; Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Why Go: Shop from over 50 hand-picked antique and vintage collectors, and the event is indoors at the Jack London Square Pavilion, so weather is not an issue.
