Deadline to Apply for NMHS Athletics Director Position Nearing

A job posting for the position states the application deadline is April 19

The search for a new Newark Memorial High School athletics director continues.

A job listing on Edjoin.org notes that individuals interested in the position have until 4 p.m. on April 19 to submit an application to fill that role for the 2013-14 school year. 

Newark Unified School District began looking for an athletics director for its only comprehensive high school in late March as a result of the passing of former athletics director and longtime football coach Rich Swift

The individual who will be selected will be charged with running 19 athletic programs, including badminton, baseball, softball, tennis, wrestling and football

According to the Edjoing.org job listing, Newark Unified is seeking an individual with at least five years of “responsible teaching and coaching experience” and has a bachelor’s degree with major course work in education, physical education or a similar field. A master’s degree, however, is preferable, and the individual must also have state teaching credentials.

Swift died Feb. 13 of an inoperable brain tumor. Swift has worked for the Newark Unified School District since 1977 and most recently served as Newark Memorial’s athletics director and head football coach and was a math teacher.
