Senator Corbett Honors India Republic Day

Senator Ellen M. Corbett (D-East Bay) honored India Republic Day on Monday by publicly recognizing prominent Indian Americans from her district in Sacramento.

The flag of India flew on the Senate floor as part of the special ceremony. India Republic Day is usually celebrated on January 26, 1960, which is the day that the Constitution of India became the ruling document of the nation.

Corbett said it was important to come together to celebrate India’s independence and its thriving democracy.  “I thank the Indo-American community in my district and throughout California for sharing the joy of this wonderful occasion with us,” Corbett said.

“I know that my legislative colleagues greatly enjoyed sharing in this celebration and I look forward to continuing to share with them the tremendous vitality and character of my East Bay District," she said.
