Mary Hayashi To Run For Nadia Lockyer Seat

Assemblywoman Hayashi, who pleaded no contest to shoplifting charges, wants to replace the county supervisor who resigned in a messy scandal.

has come true: Assemblywoman Mary Hayashi hopes to shrug off her involvement in a shoplifting episode and run for the Alameda County Board of Supervisor's seat vacated by Nadia Lockyer, who .

Lockyer served as supervisor for the board's District 2 seat, which encompasses Newark, Union City and Hayward, as well as the northern part of Fremont and part of Sunol. Former Union City councilman . He, too, plans to run for the seat in November.

Reports in the Oakland Tribune and San Francisco Chronicle say Hayashi, 45, does not think her own scandal bars her from seeking elective office when term limits force her out of her Assembly seat. Hayashi pleaded no contest to shoplifting $2,450 worth of clothes from the Neiman Marcus in San Francisco's Union Square.

Hayashi told Tribune political reporter Josh Richman "the world doesn't end when you make a personal mistake."

The Chronicle reported that Hayashi, a Hayward Democrat, has more than $580,000 in campaign funds and seems to have support from campaign donors.

What do you think of Hayashi's run?

I remember as a teacher buying my own supplies. Looking back I don't regret buying anything andRead More realize that each person's teaching style is different. The things I might buy for my classroom would be totally different than you. Running a classroom is a lot like running a business, there are expenses and you just have to deal with that.
