Chevron Station Asks to Expand, Build Carwash

City council to hold public hearings on four projects, one of which will change the Chevron on Jarvis Avenue.

on Jarvis Avenue may soon expand if the city council approves a proposal to double the size of the gas station’s convenience store.

An amendment for a conditional use permit to build a convenience store that would occupy approximately 1,069 square feet at the center of the gas station will come to the council at its regular meeting Thursday.

In addition, the proposal includes the plans to build a car wash at the rear of the gas station that would take up an estimated 612 square feet, according to the council’s agenda packet.

A public hearing on expanding the station at 6104 Jarvis Ave. will also be held at the meeting, which begins at 7:30 p.m. at council chambers on the sixth floor of .

The council will hold three other public hearings on separate matters.

at 5885 Smith Aven. is requesting permission to expand its facilities by 3,843 square feet to increase the size of its sanctuary and add four classrooms to its grounds.

The council is also scheduled to consider a conditional use permit for Safari Kid — an educational center that offers preschool and after-school programs — to occupy a vacant space at 34897 at Newark Blvd. near and .

The last public hearing is on a proposal by Green Light Recycling to build a beverage container recycling facility in the parking lot of .

The recycling facility would be a shed-type structure 8 feet high by 8 feet wide and 20 feet deep, and the city staff recommendation is to allow it to be open with an employee present from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

Also on the agenda is a scheduled vote to approve and adopt the Newark Redevelopment Agency’s Enforcement Obligation Payment Schedule.
