Applicants Sought for Community Development Advisory Committee

The committee makes proposals on how to allocate Community Development Block Grant funds.

The City of Newark is seeking applicants for a seat on its Community Development Advisory Committee, according to city staff.

The vacancy was declared at the Oct. 25 City Council Meeting for the committee, said City Clerk Sheila Harrington.

The Community Development Advisory Committee (CDAC) provides recommendations to the City Council for the use of Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds and to the Community Development Director on priorities for the use of Housing Funds.

CDBG funds are federal funds that must be used primariyly to benefit low and moderate income people in Newark, and these funds have been used to fund projects such as street improvements in low income neighborhoods, repairs to homeless shelters, and construction of the senior center addition. Housing funds must be used to increase and improve the supply of housing affordable to low and moderate income households.

Individuals who would like to apply for a spot on the Community Development Advisory Committee can apply by filling out an application form, which is available at www.newark.org or in the Office of the City Clerk, 37101 Newark Blvd. The commitee meets once a year.

Applications are due by 5 p.m., Nov. 15 and applicants must be Newark residents and a registered voter of the City of Newark. For more information, see the vacncy notice in the gallery above or call 510-578-4266.
