Update On Teen In Cherry St. Accident

Many people have been asking about the condition of the girl who was involved in the accident on Cherry St. last Friday. We heard you and asked our sources.

A Newark Police spokesperson told Patch on Tuesday that the 14-year-old is in "critical condition." He declined to give us more information, given that she is a minor.

If you are a member of her family and want to update the public about her condition, call or email the editor of this publication. Her email address is vanessa at patch dot com.

This accident has incited a debate about public safety in Newark on our Facebook page and in Patch's blog section. Some parents say the routes children take when walking to school in Newark are too dangerous. Do you agree? Join the conversation.

Ever seen Christine Street at the curved point in the mornings when parents are rushing to drop off their kids before leaving for work? Traffic from Mayhews Landing to the Junior High tends to accelerate in that curve, cross the center line, and speed.

Newark is quite frankly NOT a pedestrian friendly town; try walking to the Mall.

If we want to donate something to the family or for her hospital room how we someone go about doing that?
