Two Men Injured In Robberies on Joaquin Murieta

Three robberies occurred within three days of each other on Joaquin Murieta Avenue last week, police said.

Police are advising residents to be alert after a string of robberies injured two Newark residents in the Joaquin Murieta area.

Two men were struck in the face during separate robberies on the 6100 block of Joaquin Murieta Avenue. The crimes occurred less than five minutes apart last Wednesday, police said.

The victim of the first robbery reported that one of the suspects had a knife, according to a press release issued by Newark Police.

In that incident, the Newark resident reported that a pair of men robbed him of his cell phone and wallet around 6:44 p.m. on Joaquin Murieta Avenue.

The victim said one of the suspects kicked him in the face. He was treated at the scene for injuries to his face.

Four minutes later, a Newark man was returning home when two individuals approached him. The victim reported that one suspect demanded he give him money and that shortly after the other suspect grabbed him while the first suspect punched him in the mouth.

The man fell to the ground and one of the suspects grabbed his wallet from his back pocket.

The pair of robbers were last seen climbing over a wall toward the parking lot of a nearby condominium complex.

The suspects in the first case were described as follows:

  • Suspect 1: Black male in his early 20s, approximately 5-foot-6 and 160 pounds. He was last seen wearing a brown or gray hooded sweatshirt, white and red baseball cap and blue jeans.
  • Suspect 2: Hispanic male in his 20s, approximately 5-foot-8 with a thin build. He was last seen wearing all black clothing.

The suspects of the second robbery were described as:

  • Suspect 1: Black male in his late teens, approximately 5-foot-7 and 120 pounds with a dark complexion. He was last seen wearing a red baseball hat and black hooded sweatshirt.
  • Suspect 2: Black male in his late teens, approximately 5-foot-9. He was last seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with the hood covering his head and all dark clothing.

Wednesday’s pair of robberies came two days after a woman was robbed of her purse on the 6400 block of Joaquin Murieta Avenue. No injuries were reported in that incident. for a full report on that incident.
