Two people were found dead Friday at the E-Z 8 motel in what authorities believe may be a murder-suicide or double suicide, according to Newark Police.

Police responded to the motel off Cedar Court just before noon after the motel's staff found one female and one male unconcious inside of a room, according to Newark police.

The two victims were pronounced dead at the scene.

"The preliminary investigation indicates that it was either a murder-suicide or a tragic double suicide," Newark Police Chief James Leal said in a satatement.

The cause of death for the two victims is still unknown and the Alameda County Coroner’s Office has yet to notify the victims' next of kin. As a result, the victims' identities have not yet been released.

What appeared to be brown butcher paper was wrapped around pillars of the motel's second floor to surround a room above the motel's lobby. A car in the west side of the parking lot also had police tape around it and the east lot was closed off throughout Friday afternoon.

Newark Police Cmdr. Mike Carroll said authorities believe there are no outstanding suspects.

"We have our suspicions but at this point, we're waiting on the coroner for the cause of death," Carroll said. "What we know for certain is that we have two dead bodies."
