Police Seek Three Men After Armed Robbery

Food Maxx was robbed early Tuesday morning. It is the second time the grocery store has been robbed in four weeks.

Food Maxx was robbed at gunpoint early Tuesday morning, the second robbery at the store in less than one month, police said. 

Newark police are searching for three men who may be involved in the incident in which two men posing as customers entered the  at 39966 Cedar Blvd. just after midnight, said Commander Robert Douglas of the Newark Police Department.

One man pushed the store clerk and demanded the cash register be opened while the other man displayed a handgun, Douglas said. The first man ran off with an undisclosed amount of money from the register, and the pair was seen running into the west side of the parking lot before police arrived at the scene, he said.

No injuries were reported.

The robbers are believed to have left in a vehicle described as a 1980s dark blue two-door Toyota Corolla, which was being driven by a third man, Douglas said.

Both robbers are described as black males between 5-foot-10 and 6 feet tall.

Douglas provided the following descriptions:

The first man is between 25 and 30 years of age and 220 pounds with short hair and of light complexion and possibly has short facial hair.

He was last seen wearing a dark brown or black T-shirt, medium colored blue jeans, black tennis shoes and a brown baseball cap with tan and white stripes across the top and an emblem or team logo on front.

The second man, who was said to be holding the handgun, is believed to be in his early 20s and 150 pounds. He has short hair, dark complexion, clean shaven and was wearing a thick dark blue or black puffy style jacket with a black hooded sweatshirt, dark colored pants, black shoes and a black and white checkered baseball cap.

The third man, whom police called a possible suspect, is a man in his early 30s with a reddish colored shirt who was seated in the vehicle described above.

Food Maxx was at gunpoint. Police described those men as black males in their late 20s to early 30s. The man who had the handgun was described as 6 feet tall, 200 pounds and wearing a hooded sweatshirt and glasses. The other was described as wearing a rag on his head and was also wearing a hooded sweatshirt.

Douglas said the two incidents may be connected.
