SWAT Teams Arrest Teen Shooting Suspect

Officers arrested a 17-year-old boy in connection with a gang-related shooting Thursday that injured a 14-year-old boy.

After Newark and Union City SWAT teams arrested a 17-year-old boy in connection with a gang-related shooting Thursday that sent a 14-year-old boy to the hospital with gunshot wounds to his leg, authorities say they are searching for one more person involved with the incident.

According to Sgt. Mike Carroll, officers are still looking for the person who drove the shooting suspect's getaway vehicle. 

Officers describe the driver as a hispanic male juvenile who may have drove a red Honda Accord.

Carroll said officers took the shooting suspect into custody around 3:30 a.m. Friday, at a home on the 35800 block of Tozier Street.

“Newark police and the South Alameda County Task Force worked all night to identify and locate the suspect,” Carroll said. “The suspect was arrested for attempted homicide with (a) gang enhancement."

Caroll says the shooting suspect and the victim attended

Officers found the 14-year-old boy bleeding on a sidewalk on Cherry Street, between George and Dairy avenues Thursday afternoon.

As of Thursday night, hospital workers said the boy was recovering from his gunshot wounds, says Carroll.

Officers have responded to four shooting incidents since the beginning of the year.
