Suspects Identified in Monday’s Bank Robbery and Standoff

Jeremiah Martin, 37, and Michael Luckert, 43, both of San Francisco, were arrested Monday after robbing a Fremont bank and barricading themselves in a Newark motel.

Police have released the identities of two men who robbed a bank in Fremont and then barricaded themselves in a Newark motel in an hours-long standoff Monday.

Jeremiah Martin, 37, of San Francisco, was arrested on suspicion of robbery, receiving known stolen property and possessing a control suspect, according to the Fremont Police Department.

Martin surrendered to officers a little before 4 p.m. when he was initially contacted by police officers at the EZ 8 Motel on Cedar Boulevard near Interstate 880 in Newark.

The second suspect, 43-year-old Michael Luckert, also of San Francisco, didn’t give in so easy.

Luckert barricaded himself in a room at the motel, refusing to come out for about five hours. He eventually surrendered after being flushed out with tear gas, according to media reports.

Luckert was arrested on suspicion of robbery, receiving known stolen property and violating probation, Fremont police said.

The ordeal began at 1:40 p.m. when two men who obscured their faces with printed bandanas robbed the Bank of the West on the 39500 block of Paseo Padre Parkway in Fremont.

No gun was visible, but at least one of the men held something under a cloth that looked like a gun.

They escaped with an unknown amount of cash.

A surveillance camera caught an image of them getting into a maroon Chevy pickup and recorded a partial license plate number.

Newark spotted the vehicle less than 30 minutes later at the Motel 6 near the Mowry Avenue exit on I-880.

Witnesses told Newark police that they saw two men run from the Motel 6 to the nearby EZ 8, resulting in a lengthy standoff with local authorities from Newark, Fremont and Union City police departments.

Authorities announced at 9:30 p.m. Monday that the second suspect had surrendered.

Photos of the suspects have not yet been released as the investigation continues, police said.

Isn’t that the same photo from a crime a few months ago where they found that young girl and man dead in that hotel room?

Sure looks like the same photo! By the way good job flushing those guys out! It took awhile, but no one got hurt!
