‘Stupid’ Vandalism Arrests; Man Throws Rock at Bus

Evergreen Oil Refinery Fire
Officers assisted with traffic control at Smith Avenue and Cherry Street as Alameda County firefighters worked on a two-alarm fire at Evergreen Oil Refinery March 29. The fire injured one employee. Evergreen Oil and Cal/OSHA are investigating the cause of the fire.

Violence
As officers investigated a report of an assault with a deadly weapon involving a vehicle on Oleander Drive, they found a man lying in his driveway, suffering a broken hand and multiple cuts March 27. According to the police activity log, the male victim got into a fight with another man’s girlfriend earlier in the day. Later, officers found the 19-year-old male suspect and his car at the Motel 6 in north Fremont. Officers arrested the man in connection with the assault.

Burglary
Milpitas officers arrested a Newark teenager and two Fremont teenagers in connection with an attempted residential burglary March 26. Officers say they found a loaded gun that had been reported missing from a Hayward home burglary inside the teens' car.
Newark officers were investigating two commercial burglaries over the weekend. Officers say someone broke into the Newark National Little League snack shack at Newark Memorial High, between the evening of March 25 to March 26, and stole some cash and drinks. Officers say someone was trying to steal the copper wire from the old Chevy’s Restaurant on Mowry School Road on March 27.
Thefts
Officers found a stolen vehicle parked near on March 23.
A Hawyard K-9 team found a boy hiding inside March 25. According to the police activity log, the boy told officers he hid inside the store at closing time and stole a radio.
Vandalism
Officers arrested a man who may have thrown a rock at an AC Transit Bus on Thornton Avenue, by Ash Street, after he got into a fight with his girlfriend March 21.
Officers arrested two male juveniles in connection with “stupid” vandalism cases around Newark March 27. At 12:42 a.m. officers saw the boys at a shopping center on Central Avenue that has , BK’s Kitchen and other businesses After the boys ran away, officers found them on Cedar Boulevard. The activity log sayss one of the boys admitted to spray painting “stupid” on the walls behind the Central Avenue businesses, a truck and other locations around Newark. Officers say the other boy carried spray paint and markers.
Drugs
Officers arrested two Oakland men after they found a concealed weapon violation and methamphetamine during a traffic stop near Motel March 22.
Other Incidents
An officer rescued two dogs stuck in a drainage canal on Smith Avenue and Cherry Street March 23.
