An Alameda County Fire Department crew arrived at Newark City Hall Wednesday morning to investigate an alarm that originated in the police department's dispatch unit, according to the Pulse Point alert system.
But when they arrived all they discovered was a faulty power strip that was giving off the odor of smoke, a fire department spokeswoman said.
